| Bio: | Here I write about books and culture, politics and gardening (though I also have a gardening journal at ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif){kind=small} fragrantzodiack), also soup and curry, and anything else that engages my fancy. I keep an LJ because ...well, it's better than roaming the streets, muttering to myself.Who am I? Really, I have no idea. You tell me. Though you will, of course, get most of it wrong. What am I? I'm a freelance copyeditor and proofreader; I have just completed a part-time degree in English Literature at the University of Kent at Canterbury and am currently awaiting my final marks. I have also received a conditional offer of a part-time place on the MA in Postcolonial Studies, also at UKC, to begin in autumn 2008. My academic interests currently lie in Postcolonial Theory, American Literature, including Native American literature, Tudor and Early Modern Literature, and literary theory generally; I'm also interested in English colonial activity, especially in North America and India, and am starting to think more about cultural identity. Where am I? I share a house with the very wonderful peake, three cats, and an unfeasibly large number of books, which all now live on shelves rather than in boxes.In some of my free time I write reviews of and criticism or commentary about science fiction and fantastic literature. In some of my other free time I'm a political activist. I've heard about fun, but I'm never quite sure if I'm having any. Other things I am sometimes asked about my user name: yes, it's taken from Alan Garner's The Weirdstone of Brisingamen, although the name itself originally comes from Norse mythology, 'brisingamen' being the name of Freya's necklace. I pronounce it 'bri-SING-a-men' That's 'bri' as in brittle, 'SING' as in song, 'a' as in apple, 'men' as in meniscus.
